It looks like a big trend right now with toy companies is to make a game that can crossover from physical item to on-screen avatar. Right before the Christmas season was in full swing for us, we got a chance to sit down with the brand new ANGRY BIRDS GO! Telepods Pig Rock Raceway Set from Hasbro and review it with our boys. After some initial confusion, the raceway came together easily but be aware that it’s built to also come apart easily. Trying to teach a 4 and 1 year old patience while putting the track together can be a bit frustrating.
The raceway itself is a very simple toy. The race is extremely fast. You almost can’t see all of the action including knocking off the pigs and blocking the losing racer from the finish line. It’s actually a good design to have that racer directed off the track so you know who actually won. Otherwise, I’m not sure I would know! It is a lot of fun, and my 4 year old loved pressing the button to watch them go. My 1 year old just liked taking the pigs to play with alone. This part can be entertaining for younger kids like mine, but I feel like it’s more suitable for older ones.
Overall, I love the concept of the game and think it’s very family friendly although the app tends to take one person and separate them unless you take turns. What I love about this and other similar teleportation toys is the collecting aspect. We definitely want to find more racers to add, which is the intention!
