If you’re like me, my husband, possibly everyone in the world…your inbox might be overrun by unwanted newsletters you outgrew, accidentally signed up for, or were somehow added to the list without your consent. I actually use an old Yahoo email specifically for newsletters or online orders to keep my preferred inbox clean. But even that hasn’t worked perfectly. My main email address was added to quite a few lists without my knowledge and I didn’t realize how many I missed until I found Unroll.Me. Add the bonus of getting rid of the accumulated emails I tend to automatically delete day after day in my Yahoo email, and I was beyond eager to try out this service. Oh and it’s FREE!
Unroll.Me currently supports Outlook.com (including Hotmail, MSN, & Windows Live), Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo! Mail, AOL Mail, and iCloud. I’ve been using it for about a month now to make sure I understood how it works. You first sign up with your email address (for me, Gmail, Google Apps, and Yahoo! required me to log in) and watch as Unroll.Me scans your inbox for existing emails. When it’s finished, it will let you know how many subscriptions you have and ask you to proceed. You will be taken to an alphabetical list of subscriptions with the option to “Unsubscribe” or “Add to Rollup” next to each one. (I did find a 3rd option when I logged in again to “Keep in Inbox”. Quick explanation of each option:
- Unsubscribe: I know, duh. But just in case, this unsubscribes you from the subscribers list for that particular newsletter.
- Add to Rollup: The Rollup is a collection of newsletters/subscriptions you want to keep that will arrive together in one daily digest. This keeps your inbox clean while still allowing access to the emails you want to read. Like the necessary deals or rewards emails for sites I still use regularly.
- Keep in Inbox: If there is a subscription you just want to keep separate from the rest, you can click this or (if the option isn’t there) do nothing to keep the subscription in your Inbox.
Afterward…here is where I was initially confused…Unroll.Me continues to collect subscriptions as they are sent to your Inbox making sure you’re getting every last one. They will be listed under “New Items”. So go back after your initial visit, login, and click “Edit Subscriptions” to see the options, including “New Items”.
Another great feature, when viewing Your Rollup within Unroll.Me, each one has been categorized for you making it a lot easier to search through them. There are a few extra features, but that’s the basics that I’ve used myself so far. Besides this awesome service itself, it’s worth mentioning that the user interface is lovely and the mobile version is just as easy to use if you want to give it a shot from your phone.
Have you used this service already? What do you think? I bet some of you are running to try it out just like I was. You’re welcome!
